Pacific Islands Conference

On February 2007, I had the opportunity to attend a Pacific Island's conference held in Auckland, New Zealand. Women and men from around the Pacific came together to exchange ideas about how we can reach out to our communities and offer character education classes to adults, youth, and children.

American Samoa friends

American Samoa friends found a new way of bringing pre-youths together to discuss moral issues. On Friday nights, the preyouths come together to watch a movie and have popcorn. The discussions on moral issues are taken from the movie and are expanded to the youths' experiences and their beliefs. These discussions have been very helpful to these young, growing individuals whose lives are in a transition from child to youth. The preyouths look forward every week to meet their friends in one's home to learn more about themselves and others.

Vanuatu mother tells her story

With tears rolling down her face, a friend from Vanuatu shares success stories of youth teaching children's classes. She says many children in her village are exposed to drugs, particularly Marijuana, and this had prompted her to hold children's character education classes on a weekly basis. She says that many of the youth and preyouth who teach these classes are the key instruments for the success.
